After initial contact, the scammer proceeds to direct the target to our website to further validate their fake identity in an attempt to extort money and/or personal information from the target. It has come to our attention that schemers have contacted the public and have spoofed legitimate EPIC telephone numbers to convince the target that the call is legitimate. This announcement aims to raise awareness that DEA EPIC personnel will never contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment and will never request personal or sensitive information over the phone.
